The project primarily involved expanding the operating room by incorporating new operating rooms and refitting some existing operating rooms, as well as the recovery room and support areas. The facilities had to be adapted to the highest standards in force and to state-of-the-art equipment in order to optimize medical activities for more efficient patient care.

Our team worked in ten rooms dedicated to three specialties: cardiac, thoracic, and general surgery. The facility now boasts innovative features such as the first hybrid cardiology room in Canada and a multidisciplinary operating room with respiratory isolation featuring a HEPA Bag-In/Bag-Out filter system, in addition to the integration of a total of 38 Maquet ceiling-mounted operating arms.

Carried out in the midst of a pandemic, the project had to ensure the continuity of surgical operations during the seven phases of work carried out over a three-year period. Enhanced site monitoring by our team ensured that occupants were safe, that we adhered to the highest infection prevention and control standards, and that we completed the project within an ambitious schedule.

In addition to the technological advances made possible by the new facilities, the operating room now benefits from improved fluidity of movement and optimized links between the operating rooms, the recovery room and the sterile reserves (LEAN). All of these improvements support the IUCPQ's aspirations to provide specialized and ultra-specialized care.
